Open water swimming mode customization – swim distance always zero and no temperature
-
@bbx100 temperature should be fixed in next update (if I’m not wrong), using the weather S+ app gives temperature in the meanwhile.
Which field are you adding for distance? -
@isazi Today my watch showed the temperature during outdoor swimming, but only after 7 minutes of swimming. Maybe after the temperature stabilized? Maybe it’s just showing the average temperature?
-
@isazi Ok thx for info about temperature bug. Regarding swim distance field I use field called “Swim distance”. As I noticed swim distance field on the watch shows always 0, but after sync with the phone swim distance is shown in the app ok. It is just not shown on the watch so when you swim it is always 0. I fixed it on my old Spartan in a way that I used regular distance field which showed distance in km rather than meters as swim distance should. I’m suprised that this bug is still not fixed for 2 years after I reported it on this forum
-
@pavlas On my old Spartan baro it worked OK. You had temperature and average temperature fields. Temperature showed sea temp continuously and you could see changes as watch cooled to ambient temp. It is very useful to see what is sea temperature when you swimm…
Average temperature filed would show average temp… -
@bbx100 Yeah, it was the same on the S9. But since a certain update, it’s been acting weird. It’s been discussed here a few times.

@isazi said in Open water swimming mode customization – swim distance always zero and no temperature:

I do not believe
(GNSS does not work underwater). -
@piotr-grygiel it should already be fixed in testing firmware, to be honest. And temperature has nothing to do with GPS
-
@isazi Topic is about swimming distance and temperature
-
@piotr-grygiel the issue is that open water swim uses distance, not swimming distance, because swimming distance is pool length multiplied per turns, and that does not work in OWS, which uses GPS instead. It is not an issue, it is by design. As for temperature, as I said should be fixed very soon.
-
@isazi Ok thank you for clarification regarding swimming distance but it is not clear from the name of the field that it is only for swimming pool. I hope that temperature will be fixed soon as you said
-
As somebody noticed in previous posts, S+ Weather screen seems to solve a problem as a workaround. If you activate this screen (Weather) and if you return to screen where temp field is displayed than it works ok, it shows temp. It seems like a temp sensor is off when you start activity and if you activate S+ Weather than it turns on… this is the bug
-
@isazi Today I noticed for the second time that the Open Water distance shown on my Race is 0m, which is wrong, and after searching I found this thread. I understand that for pool swimming the swimming distance is pool length multiplied per turns. But in Open Water GPS could be used to show a distance greater than 0m. Is it a bug on the Race or what could be the reason?
-
@zucchero a 3min swim? Also no temperature logged?
where and how long did you swim?
Did you have a GPS fix before entering the water (green arrow)? -
@zucchero the bug for 0 distance in the pool has been found and fixed (as far as I know) and will be available in next update. For openwater, as in your case, do you have the track available in the app?
-
@Egika The 3 min have only been a test swim, but the issue was indeed that I did not wait for the green GPS arrow. I already was outside near the lake far away from tall buildings and I thought the watch already has a GPS signal.
-
@isazi Issue solved. See above. User error.
When I start an activity like my swim without a GPS signal and, if the watch gets a GPS signal a few minutes later, does it then track the distance? -
