Download offline map problem
-
@olymay You can try, yes, you need to put the S7 to charge, but with only connected via BT to your mobile and your mobile via WiFi it’s OK for maps update and others (Google Play apps updates, etc), this mean, you don’t need to connect the S7 directly to WiFi.

Ah, ok, so the watch still needs to go on charge.
But if the watch is on charge and connected via Bluetooth to the phone which is in turn connected to the WiFi, why not just connect the watch directly to the WiFi?
Bluetooth is fine for notifications etc, but is painfully slow for actual data transfer. A WiFi connection would be significantly faster and isn’t any more power hungry (moot point anyway as the watch is on it’s charger). -
@olymay why not just connect the watch directly to the WiFi?
Mainly, as I mentioned above, because I not have available 2.4Ghz WiFi. Even WiFi drain more battery and update speed is not matter during charge process because take few seconds only for maps and no more than 3 minutes when also apps are updated. The S7 is plugged to the charger for a minimum of 20-30’, what no represent a problem.
-
@flypg Fair enough, each to their own.
One potential issue with using Bluetooth instead of WiFi whilst charging is that the pone must stay near the watch whilst updates take place. Map files are pretty speedy, apps are getting more bloated and take longer and longer all the time. However if you were to do a system update this way you could be waiting a considerable amount of time (although sadly I don’t think will be a problem any longer as I believe the S7 has been dropped).
But each to their own
-
Yes, logically each one depends on its own range of use. For FW updates or big Playlist of music I connect to WiFi.
@olymay (although sadly I don’t think will be a problem any longer as I believe the S7 has been dropped)
I hope you’re wrong!

@g-q mine stops at 45% downloading. Almost a week now cant get maps into watch.
-
@r-s-0 yes, even on Reddit there are users who complain about it. I just hope Suunto doesn’t leave this watch at the mercy of our wrists.

I had the same problem few weeks back. I solved by shutting down S7 and mobile, turned on again and worked. You tried this?
-
@flypg will try! thanks. btw I can scroll from my city to another city on the S7 and see every street on the map while having the watch offline. Is this why downloads takes so long time? It’s supposed to be an area of no more than 30km I think. I have hundreds of kms
-
Suunto is investigating the issue.
-
@isazi good news, tx!
-
Same problem for me. Watch is in charge and connected to Wi-Fi, and since week, maps download is interrupted without any reason.
-
Maybe try a smaller map size to see if that makes a difference?
I have left mine on the default size and do not have any custom map areas and it downloads just fine.
Maybe larger map files are having issues? -

alas nope

Maybe larger map files are having issues?probably but who knows
-
@g-q Gah, that’s a shame
Maybe it’s region based?? (pure guesswork here!) Mine is downloading fine in the UK.
Otherwise, get on the blower to Suunto Support.

Working well for me.
Local offline map plus the ones for routes are loaded instantly for me. -
For me its also not working. Different areas(also those which were working previosly), small and big one.

Sorry, Just now read your hint but it works. Thanks a lot!
On watch I “force close” all sunnto application. Reopen suunto and offline map was downloaded properly.
@G-Q did you try this already? -
@piotr-pientka Late last night I tried again and things went well without modifying/acting on anything. Sometimes this watch is quite puzzling…
(or Suunto in the meantime has changed something…) -
Things should be working again since yesterday afternoon, from what I understand. Please when things do not work as expected post in this forum so we can tell Suunto that various users are having the same problem. Especially with the S7 where some things are controlled by Suunto and some by Google can be difficult to find issues.
