I noticed something yesterday on SR - when using maps with route there is no visible breadcrumb trail where I already passed.
Here is a picture from yesterday:
This is taken when I was on a way back, I already passed this trail on the way to the peak and there is no visible breadcrumb trail, I only see planned route in blue, and recent breadcrumb trail while I was going down. There is no visible breadcrumb trail from ascent.
This part is missing. Is this a bug or feature? If it is feature it is terrible one.
Also GPS was really weird, it had large offset, but only on one segment of the track, rest of the track is fine. And this was few hours into the activity.

@Dušan-Ković First, when you have completed parts of the route it shows as a solid red line. Did you have the route in place for your entire exercise? For example if an out and back you had a route planned for both the out and back?
-
@Brad_Olwin I have planned only one direction - start to peak. All suuntos just reverse direction of the planned route. Yes, I know that it shows red line, but same red line is missing for the ascent part of the activity, it only showed descent. I started activity at the parking lot, loaded route before starting. I only paused the activity when I made a 10min break.
-
@Dušan-Ković What about that straight line / GPS jump on the top of your SA screenshot? It seems that you possibly lost the GPS signal for some time. Are you sure that your watch really recorded that breadcrumb track during ascent in that place where you took the photo of your watch? Perhaps there was a straight line instead somewhere nearby (but not within the 200m radius)…
-
@inkognito That is when I paused it and I forgot to unpause it for about 400-500m it did not lost GPS it just jumped to the position where I unpaused it… That should not influence missing ascent breadcrumb trail
-
@Dušan-Ković I once had the same with a beta software, that the beginning of the route was not shown anymore for a long activity.
How long was your recording in total? -
@Egika got happened to my SV before. Part of the beginning route was disappeared. the total distance was 9.67km and taken 9.50 hours to complete my hike.

right. Can you confirm the firmware version the watch was on, when you found this recently?
-
@Egika It was, 7.5 hours. Let me share a link to the activity, maybe you guys can figure something out:

I am on the latest firmware, updated when it was released

@Egika happened on previous firmware before latest update. not always happened but already happened 3 times. Someone from this forum report this problem before for SV but i can’t find back that topic.
of course i’m not sure this latest firmware already fixed this issue or not.i just want to inform SR route disappeared is similar case with SV.

@Dušan-Ković thank you!

I just signed up so I can talk about the same issue.
I have a Suunto vertical and it’s been several times that I notice that the beginning of the recording of my routes disappears as time passes. I did the software and hardware reset but it doesn’t change anything. I contacted Suunto support but they didn’t give me a response. I also have the latest update installed on the watch and I reinstalled the maps. And I have the same problem with my Suunto Peak 9 Pro. Moreover, I was with a friend with a Suunto Vertical and he has the same problem.
I took photos this weekend for better explanations :
After 3 hours of activity, I looked for my starting point on the watch and a piece of the route was already missing. After 4 hours, the route was even further than the start.
The recording is still done since I see it on the application, once the synchronization is done.
In the attached images, you can see photos of the watch after 3 hours and 4 hours of activity as well as screenshots of the track on the mobile application.
Is there a solution ?
As it is, it is not possible to follow the return path with breadcrumb ! -
@fondueaufromage welcome. This has been already reported to Suunto and it’s known.
-
@isazi In the latest beta, has it been addressed - if you can share? In a week, I’m going on a week long hiking trip and at this point I’m certain to bring my Fenix 7X. I guess even if it has been fixed internally, the next question is when a firmware update will happen. But to me this is a safety issue when my wife and I are on the trail.
-
@seanvk unfortunately cannot help you with this, we have reported (to Suunto) that this is still an issue and needs fixing.
-
@isazi Thank you for your answer. I didn’t know that the problem had been traced back to Sunnto. Especially since the technical support did not seem to want to understand the explanations of my problem, in any case, they did not tell me that they were aware.
-
@fondueaufromage I do not know if the user-facing support has a list of all technical issues the firmware developers are working on.
-
@isazi Hi again. I noticed something strange while testing that may not have been reported ?!
We know that the trace disappears little by little from the starting point during activities, for my part during ski touring.
Then, what is strange, I tried twice to record an entire normal day, that is to say going to work and coming back in the evening, 10 hours later with very little difference in altitude in this case. I noticed that the trace had not disappeared. However, I used the same sports profile.
I did these tests with my Vertical and Peak 9 Pro; for both, the problem appears in the mountains but not for a normal day.
Could there be a bug in the algorithm when it has to take into account the difference in altitude ?? Is this a relevant detail to bring up at Suunto? -
@fondueaufromage so you recorded the whole day? Or have the watch paused? Were you moving the whole day?
-
@isazi Yes, I recorded the whole day, without stopping the record from 7am to 7pm. From home to word (25km), stay to work whole day and come back in the evening (25km again). Unfortunately, I didn’t have a good GPS reception during time spent at the office. I didn’t move much there but I was outside a few times.
The starting point of the trace has not moved. And, obviously, I used the same sports profile as during the ski touring.
