Battery Service for my Ambit Vertical
-
A week ago I sent my Ambit Vertical to the service after a good 4 years with the request to replace the battery. Of course without guarantee and at my expense. I am attached to this clock, it has often accompanied me and I want to “keep it alive”. Yesterday, Suunto replied that it was not worth repairing and they were offering me a replacement watch for €150. I’m stunned, I want my watch repaired and I want to pay for it. I announced the repair beforehand.
This is no longer Suunto and no longer the values it once stood for . -
@olli2709 can’t you just ask them to repair instead? I think suunto was trying to find the most cost effective deal for you, the customer.
-
@dmytro I was only able to select the “Accept Deal” or “Decline” option in the email. So when a battery change is more expensive than a new watch, I don’t understand the world anymore. Even Apple can change the battery on request for €75, which is far more difficult than with a screwed watch.
-
@olli2709 it mustn’t be more expensive, maybe the just saw the product as a whole. To put it differently, they may have thought that changing the battery will only prolong the life of the watch by a year or so, so turning it in instead would be a better deal.
Why don’t you contact support and explain the situation to them, I’m quite certain, you can find a middle ground. -
@dmytro or they may not produce batteries for an old model anymore.
-
@olli2709 I know you prefer the battery exchange but which model did they offer you for €150 plus turning in your old watch?
-
@skifun exacly the same, a refurbish Suunto Vertical
-
@dmytro i explained it before and i write it down and put it with the watch…
-
@isazi you can buy the batteries on ebay, but here they told me, it’s better to contact the service for change
-
@olli2709 I don’t know how difficult is to replace them, but if service would not repair it you can try by yourself. Never done that myself.
-
@olli2709 on the bright side they still repair it and “sell to you” the same model.
I belive they offer this solution between of compromise of “value” and supplying the costumer a watch they are 100% confident on.
I understand for you, it is only battery…but I give you a worst case scenario…you pay, let’s say 75eur for a battery…
After 2-3 months the barometers stops working…you will be frustrated…
This way they charge more but they have some warranty that the whole is ok.
I believe if you ask kindly, and say that maybe you are not in rush, you prefer to have your watch repaired and verified because you are emotionally attached to it. -

Hope it will help if you decide to do it by yourself. -
@andré-faria I already enclosed a letter with the watch when it was sent and after it was clear that they wanted to exchange the watch, I replied again by email. I got no answer :-(.

@jasmin-klipic thank you, perfect
-
@sebchastang Wow very good. I have never seen this guide before, it will surely help me. Thanks very much !
-
@olli2709 welcome and good luck, soon or later will need to do the same for my ambit 3
-
@olli2709 Have you considered that there might be some other issue with the watch that needs repairing and that replacing the watch is a better option? Unless batteries are not available, I would think a watch replacement is more expensive for Suunto than a battery replacement. In my experience, Suunto customer support is stellar, I doubt they are attempting to circumvent your wishes. While they may not communicate enough, I suspect there is more wrong with the watch you sent in than the battery.

New status !! Suunto is now sending me back the watch they didn’t change the battery on and charging me xxxx for analysis and testing. The watch worked perfectly before, I actually only wanted the battery to be replaced, they didn’t manage that. Is Suunto now deciding whether this is economical and ignoring customer wishes? At the time, before shipping, I specified my watch model, the serial number, and I could have been told right away that you cannot or do not want to replace the battery on this watch.
I wanted the battery replaced, no tests and no fault analysis! Now I pay 41€ to get my watch back without a new battery?? Bullshit Suunto!!! -
