Suunto 7: Breaks in Fit daily heart rate
-
For the past few days I’m seeing a curious behavior. Several times a day my S7 would stop recording periodic heart rate (or reporting it to Fit). Opening Fit app would show the watch disconnected (cross in little watch icon on Journal page). Once the connection gets reestablished, there will be a gap in HR. I think this is a problem with the watch/Fit setup and not the connection though, nor the mobile Fit app/cloud.
Here’s an example from today:
Here’s a break as can be seen in the watch:
(The watch has been snug on my arm all the time, no unlock was needed at any point.)
-
What happens when you tab the screen with heart rate to switch to the screen with the whole day?
-
@NickK This has been seen during testing and Suunto knows about it. It has been worse. Hopefully it will be addressed with an update.
-
@pilleus The break in the HR remains. Basically, for some reason the watch just stops taking periodic HR readings. They don’t exist on the watch and from there the drop flows into Fit on the phone.
-
Strange, no gap here since Friday (first usage of the S7).
-
@pilleus It works on my machine? Been there, done that. Sadly for me today is even worse. Just a few fragments of HR and that’s it, even during a night.

In Fit on the watch or on the phone?
-
@pilleus I’d imagine Fit on the watch, and the watch itself, will be the same for the two of us, model and version wise. It’s the phone angle I start to wonder about. From connectivity/services perspective…
When I first set up my watch, Fit connection between the phone and the watch was totally hosed. No amounts of Bluetooth toggling, reboots, cache cleansing, and app reinstalls helped. I was about to reset my watch but decided to report the bug first. That report bug in Wear OS somehow fixed Fit connectivity. But things have been flaky since then.
-
I resetted my S7 after the update of the S7 app, because I imported two profiles during the first setup. May be this is the difference?
-
@pilleus Yes, I feel like reset is in order. Just don’t have time to deal with configuring everything.
-
@NickK You have rebooted the watch, right? That seemed to help for a day or two.

Yes, it is better after reboot, indeed. Probably I should get into habit of doing that daily until the updates roll.
-
@NickK A reset won’t solve the issue and too much hassle. Just reboot when you need to. Hopefully fixed on next release.

What is the reason for the issue? And why is my S7 not affected? Or is it too fresh?
-
@pilleus With the last firmware update, my daily HR improved a lot and I saw few “breaks.” Others seemed to be having more issues. It may be a Fit to watch connection as opposed to the HR and may be an issue for Google. I think Suunto is planning to port the activities to SA, which would be much better IMHO.

But I hope that the export to Fit will stay alive as an option (ticwatch can sync to the own health app and/or to Fit) , because in Fit there are all data available (heart rate, steps, sleep, activities, weight) from several watches. For me a reason to choose the WearOS powered S7.

In my Suunto App at the phone there is an information amongst my activities which is showing S7 and Google Fit.
I would return the S7 if it shouldn’t be possible in the future to sync with Fit as sold and touted.
-
@pilleus This is what I want. Sleep, heart rate and steps in Suunto app and in Health in OS.
-
@Brad_Olwin Yes, reset is time consuming but I think it’s the only way forward. Rebooted the watch after charging today. Already have several breaks inside a three hour period. The watch’s been on my wrist since 7:00 but hasn’t measured heart heart rate until 7:47, then it took another reading at 8:34 and called it a day. It’s 9:52 now, I launched Fit on the watch several times, but it’s holding tight. No daily HR for ya!
I think the problem is Fit on Wear OS. If this were a phone connectivity issue, I’d imagine I would have still had a decent graph in my watch’s Fit.

Looks like daily HR is getting worse by the day for me, sadly. After today’s reboot, Fit is pretty much out:
That single value around 11:05 is a manual reading. Basically, daily HR hasn’t worked since about 9:00. Forced-exited Fit on the watch, cleared the cache. Will see if this helps.
