        Re: [Goodbye Suunto](hello Garmin)
        Hi there,
for many years i was fan of Suunto and recommend it many times. I’m also owner of M5, Ambit 1, Spartan Ultra. I bought M3 for my girlfriend, Ambit2 for my brother.
Even when i was very unhappy about shutting down of Movescount, i still believed in better future. The last time (4 months ago) i recommended Suunto 9 to my sparing partner. Now it’s all over.
Suunto App is useless, Movescount is shutted down, all older watches (i was still using Ambit for some activities) doesn’t work with supermega Suunto App (correct me if wrong).
Yesterday i ordered Garmin Fenix 6X. Even i was never fan of Garmin, if i compare functions inside watches (solar charging, nfc, music) and website (for data analysis, planning) i have to say, Garmin is far in front of Suunto now.
Now i regret that i bought Spartan Ultra last year instead of Garmin Fenix5… I wanted to stay with the same platform, it shows as a mistake.
Is there a way, how i can export all my activites from Suunto for usage in any other 3d party solution for data analysis? Can you suggest something?
Thank you very much in advance and, sadly, goodbay.

Hi, even if I reply to an old topic, it is today the 8th of May and Suunto App is still a sh*t. I am an early bird of the Suunto Spartan Ultra watch (paid dear and naughty) but I have always been very happy of its accuracy and hardware features.
I used movescount during years despite few bugs and un-enhanced features.

Now, seeing suunto put all the efforts to the hardware and nothing (really nothing valid) in software made me taking now the decision to turn to the Garmin side as well.

This is completely understandable. You are not the only one

            Have you tried Qs?

I find Suunto app more convenient most of the times. Sure and web interface could be useful and here had been debated a lot.

Based on my so far experience with Garmin vs Suunto (Fenix6ProSolar, SuuntoAmbit3Peak):

              Garmin :
Pros : Flexibility and lots of power to control of setup, Much better accuracy of Baro / Alti, Web interface, Planning routes much faster,
Faster Customer service support response. Clear response on IP Renages for Firewall.
Cons : Trouble with navigation (planned route) - down to GPS + Gallileo && GPS + Glonass accuracy, - Still testing it, Battery in Garmin is definitely something everyone should complain about - as it is massive exaggeration on their end.
There is no way you can get 14 days with 24/7 tracking (without GPS)

              Suunto :
Pros : Solid, Good GPS Accuracy, Reliable navigation, Simplicity in settings and look.
Cons : Lack of Support from Customer Services. - and not clear answers / slow answers, Lack of clarity on Firewall. Constant Facebook pull&push. Need to use systems to upload route (for nav) - and still no support for older ranges of watches, and you need to spend more time to plan your route - to add all PoI etc, - it is good - as forces you to know better whole route - so in case of any failure - you memorise more things and not fully relying on technology, but it is bad - as no full support on cross platform GPX / KML with build in POI. - and using MC for POI takes ages. Battery life reduced for both Watch and Phone since SA release.

              Suggestions / Conclusions?.
I know that supporting older product is not in interest of any company - as they need to sell something better every day.
But here’s the point - they got products that were working perfectly fine - and had loads of control over everything - then all that was taken away by migrating to SuuntoApp - leaving people with 50% of what equipment was capable of doing (in terms of human - device interface / experience) - in other words - you got a gift - but then you had to give back 50% of it - vs you got 50% of gift to begin with.
Not all people want rely only on Apps, and using phone for everything. I like the semi analog approach - but proper Web interface would help a lot.
It would be also good - if Suunto got approach for 2 apps rather than one (one for syncing movements, changing settings, and the other one for analyzing all stats etc) . - maybe then it would reduce battery consumption.
Removing Facebook would be also good - and have clarity on Firewall settings.

Don’t they say: 14 days in smartwatch-mode? so no tracking

Yes, I totally agree with you. It always takes me weeks to get an answer (most of the time only on facebook or twitter and then it is like “I don’t know, send it to support if it is still under warranty”)

@vgnjhd my experience on garmin forerunner 645 vs ambit 3 peak:
(not going to talk about the aesthetics because there like 10.000 years since ambit was released)

Suunto is spot on on the pace whereas Garmin fails miserably
Suunto focuses on what really matters whereas Garmin is something you can debate for ages but it does offer a lot more but not necessarily in a better way
Garmin is nowhere near as robust as Ambit is/was

OHR on forerunner is almost perfect compared to chest strap
Garmin calculates some 20% more calories than Suunto despite having almost identical other measurements
                    VO2max is almost the same

having a web based portal is huge plus
Suunto App is much better looking than Garmin
Structured Workouts (something that Ambit3 used to have) is still a huge omission (i am sure Suunto will realise it soon)
it seems that Suunto is focused on more “professional” athletes rather than Garmin. I tend to be more of an occasional athlete so i sometimes like the “fitness” approach of Garmin

The big question however is … what is the point of all of this? I think that unless you ruinned your watch and need a replacement… there is little to be justifying a new purchase of any other platform these days

@thanasis I would say, that the reason for switching to an other platform is all about the eco system.

Garmin has much more to offer, especially for cyclists:

                      • Tacx pairing
                      • bike computer syncing with the same app as the watch does
                      • Garmin Varia Radar

@theguyfromthesummit Garmin is in another level when it comes about accessories and connectivity, specially in triathlon or bike. None can compete with Garmin now. Ant+ and all
sensors you want. Lights, gears of shimano… the list is impressive.
