Ambit2 - spell it out for me...

@NickK Yes, you are correct. I guess I just misread some in your post. its quite hectic here in last hours…
-
Hello on Linux based OS, a software called openambit can extract file from the ambit2 serie.
Maybe someone can convert it to works on windows OS… -
@haydnw excatly what Suunto has said today except for the small fine print note that thye are excited that you continue your experience with them… I don’t think many Ambit1/2 will see this as experience…
Ambit, Ambit2, M-series, T-series and Quest Collection watches:
We are excited to offer you the ability to transfer your Move history from Movescount to Suunto app and continue your experience with Suunto" -
@Tobias-F Didn’t excite me it appalled me
-
So, I have an Ambit 2 and don’t care if I lose all my data - I just want to know how far I have run and my time and pace for that run. I would never even connect to Movescount except for the fact that I have to clear the memory (upload the data on my watch) from time to time. Am I correct that once my watch fills up with data after Movescount goes away it will then be useless? Is there an alternative way to clear the data on my watch?

I have to clear the memory
no need to connect your Ambit2 to movescount for this ‘clear meory’, the internal memory in the watch is rolling over means if space needed the watch will delete the oldest move automatically and free up space, this change has been implemented after the T6 and for all Ambit’s onwards

@DLRunner, let me guess, you ask because of a sync reminder that pops up when more than 50% of memory is occupied by new unsynced activities? In your case it’s safe to ignore it. By the way, Pause -> Back in the activity will ask if you want to end and save. Choosing No for save will still show a summary.
-
margussl Yes, I believe that when I see that reminder I am unable to start a new workout until I have cleared the memory.
-
Thank you both - I guess I didn’t understand how the memory worked. Hopefully I can keep using my Ambit 2 for a long time!
-
Reading the sad news for Ambit 2, and then getting this email from Suunto :-)…(see the bottom sentence there…)
-
@Oktan Yes, I spotted the irony of this immediately as well!

Ambit Connect. -
@haydnw Add me to the list of disappointed and angry customers who are using Ambit2.

Ambit Connect.I’ve tried ambit connect in every updated version of it on two different android phones and have never succeeded in getting the phones to detect the watch.

Just one day before the axe announcement by Suunto I have written this about my beloved Ambit2:
" Loving my Ambit 2 - no color display, no wireless bullshit - oldskool solid product from times when Suunto was eager to succeed & have no guts to implements planned obsolescence into the product itself "
How little I knew about implementing design obsolescence into it’s future connectivity !
Let’s not forget this lesson: Suunto might offers Ambit2 owners % discount for their products purchase, so we throw away perfectly working product & give them more $ ?
The trust was lost in one email Suunto, it will take years to built it -
@Tobias-F Can’t wait to get the detail explanation of continuation from the super excited Suunto writers

Right now and for the next 1.5 years your Ambit 2 will function as it did before the announcement. And in 1.5 years you may want to or need to replace the watch. Why be upset now when nothing you are doing has changed? In the late winter of 2020 I understand that you might be angry.

@Brad_Olwin
Because he could sell it or give it to someone else? Even used, working watch has a value and could serve its purpose for many years in the future. It should not be the suunto’s decision when the watch should be tossed. -

Frankly even without the announcement you are not going to get much for an A2 since there is an A3, so I just don’t agree. The A2 has been out for quite a long time.
