I think if it is your first watch, you don’t even think about some functionality that is not there. If you already had a Watch before, you expect all the newer ones to include functionality that you are used to. And this is what people see as essential functionality. And other do not miss it.

Just as an example the other way around: If you have a Suunto, you are used to see running timers in the watch face, you are used to the auto sorting of sports mode for last recently used. Garmin - as the usual example - has neither of them. Sure, you can dedicate one data field to a running timer, but Suunto solves this way more elegant.

It’s just expectations…

I feel some sympathy with the OP - I bought the Vertical 2 a few months back for multi-day hikes in Scotland, as well as for fell running, parkruns and long bike rides. I felt a bit disappointed that I couldn’t use all the functions during a very long activity - after all, it is marketed as an Adventure watch!

I (thought I) did the research beforehand comparing with Garmin Fenix/Enduro, and felt the Suunto V2 was definitely right for me - the offline topo maps and insane battery life were the main things. But, overall, I wanted something simpler, robust and focussed on the task at hand rather than having contactless payments, phone calls, etc. So I am actually very happy with the V2, and I could always stitch together GPXs if I wanted.

However, I think one big problem is that Suunto’s documentation is really sparse, and they made a big marketing splash out of the flashlight - without making it clear it can’t be used in an activity! So I did miss the issue about not using all the functions in an activity.

One thing I would prefer rather than quit/resume is to be able to change things like GPS accuracy during a multi-day hike to save battery. Sometimes you want precise accuracy and to see all the map detail, but then you might be walking on an estate track for miles, and could just turn the accuracy to lowest.

@2b2bff I agree with you 100%. Beyond that I feel like the initial post was pretty aggressive. We are a community of people who help others better understand their Suuntos. I am not sure if a random rant on this board will attract the attention from the main designers that you are hoping for. I am guessing they have long term strategies and planning that is not dictated by random posts on this forum.

Would it not be more productive to come here asking for help or work arounds from people who have been using Suuntos for years?

Interesting other info might be that even though Garmin has the feature I have had issues with it slowing down my watch going into a few days of the same activity. Even DC Rainmaker has spoken about how Garmin struggles with such large .fit files as they grow over so many miles.

It can be used during activity. Just long press the bottom button and access the menu to enable it.

That does work although it is a bit clunky to do on the move. Once you’ve done it a couple of times muscle memory makes it more intuitive to use.

I would like to be able to customise what a long button press does during an activity like what can be done from the watch face but I do not know how easy this would be to implement in the firmware. A single long button push to turn on the led light during an activity would be fantastic.

Few things :

• Want to see battery status -> hit lower button for 2 sec to get the configuration panel, see batery
• Flashlight -> hit lower button for 2 sec to get the configuration panel, go down, enable flashlight
• For for temperature and forecast, you can set them as specific field in a personalized sport profile

So, its now only missing 3 points, maybe not that crippled ?

@aiv4r Where exactly is that? How do you want the customer to know? Sorry, but the criticism is justified. If you do not need this function, this is good for you. I think the disappointment of the user is absolutely understandable. Vertical2 is called an adventure Watch with a super long runtime, a function like the „Later Continue“ seems very essential to me. Even if I rarely hikings for several days at a time, I also looked for this function. And if only during an extended break.
Why is it so opposed to criticism? Let the user decide whether the tracking is paused all the time or if you go into the desired mode Continue later. Ultimately, this would be a useful further development that increases the range of functions of the watch. The customer has described the benefits well.

@MikeC30 Thanks! Just been for a test walk, and that works fine. Also realised the GPS mode can be changed while navigating, so that’s solved my problems. Feel like I am understanding how the watch works a bit more now. Thanks, Richard

@Sascha-Domres i think you might have misunderstood my comments point, but anyway. It is fine to be dissapointed, it is not fine to create posts like that, it comes out as abit aggresive and rude.
“Resume later” is in no way an essential feature for any watch in the world would it be 100eur or 1000eur watch. I would understand if we would be talking about sportswatch that does not track GPS or smth, in that case I would agree that critisism is well placed.
My point was that I think 600eur is a lot of money and I would be very careful where I put that and if “Resume later” is such an important function, please check before buying (forum exists, reddit exits, ask chatGPT eventualy, sometimes it is correct).

We can discuss forever if it is useful feature or not, but that is another discussion and it was suggested like a million times, just search this forum.
