Suunto 3 fitness swimming
-
I just had the opportunity to try the open water sport mode but sadly I didn’t see the watch tracking my strokes and pace. I know that heart rate is almost impossible to track properly in the water but strokes are a basic feature.
It seems like the watch has a lot of sport modes but they are basically the same thing. One other example is weight lifting where the watch doesn’t have basic things like setz weight size, etc.
It seems more and more like this watch is not getting much attention and I am questioning my purchase. Do you think/know if suunto will be improving the watch and has plans for it? I bought it because it seemed like the best at this price point for my needs but I find myself missing some things more and more.
-
Usually it happens.
But in terms of features imho you can’t expect the same as a Spartan sport.
There will always be some limitations (I’m not strictly talking about strokes) -
@sartoric unfortunately spartan line doesn’t have stroke count or strokes per length, strokes per min… which are basics for swimming, imagine running without pace or cadence
Very limited support for swimming from suunto. -
Yep I know, that’s why I specified I was not talking about strokes. There are several discussions about it and even if I’m not a swimmer I guess it should be “fixed”
I was just referring to the @nikolavp question about “improvements”.
-
@SlaSh it does not? I think it does
-
@SlaSh BTW it has avg and per lap or interval.
Basic for swimmer the instant is not as I don’t think that is something that people will look.
Perhaps you can debate how you would use it since you consider it a basic for swimmers (instant stroke rate).
I am a swimmer but I never found use of it as instant.

Hi @nikolavp the s3 will get soon some sport mode customisation afaik. I am not 100% sure but its a tip from me
Regarding stokes and rate , AFAIK its recorded but the suunto app does not show it yet.
Let’s come back to this issue after some updates. I have asked for further info from Suunto.
-
@nikolavp so in short you will be able to use other and custom data when/if the customisation comes and you will be able to put what youblike for weight training etc.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos nice, can’t wait to see this in production.
I just want to know that suunto is not abandoning the watch. I knew what I was buying when I did the purchase and I am still very happy with it.
-
@nikolavp I think its well and will be supported.
I think 3 updates came out since its launch and I think they update all fitness libs etc.
You got a new watchface, adoptive training based on targets and much improved ohr with the latest update (plus some goodies).
Soon I suppose we will get more of those. Oct is near
-
@nikolavp fitness libs i mean the first beat stuff, like new first beat protocols etc. You don’t see those in the release notes, and its something I would like Suunto to expose , but they try to keep it simple.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos finally suunto gives control for customers!!!

if I go to diary in my watch I can see strokes, rate and SWOLF unless SA is not showing them
@nikolavp did you try to see if you can find there (in the watch diary)?
-
I tried, the workout summary in the end doesn’t include them, basically making the whole custom workout meaningless to me.
I can use indoor workout with the same effect.
-
@nikolavp that is because s3f was not focused on those. But hey things change.

I hope you are right. I read that they are not fragmenting the SW like some vendors are doing.
BTW I think that if suunto focuses more on exposing the data instead of doing graphics on top of it, it will beat the competition.
There are a lot of tools out there that can take advantage of the data, I can also write one of these. But not capturing/exposing the data is a deal breaker.
-
@nikolavp they do capture and expose those via the .fit format.
The problem ATM is that the user of s3f does not have connection to mc that supports the .fit format. But sa will within a few weeks support it so no worries. And you will see some interesting stuff
I cannot say more due to my NDA but wink.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos just pure awesomeness
-
@nikolavp in about 5 days I’ll be back home to my s3f.
Please remind to dig into the data for swimming. Perhaps I can give you an example.
(Sorry I have too many things to remember , I put reminder but perhaps I’ll forget)
-
@nikolavp hi!!!
Have you updated your s3f? I checked and sport mode customisation is there bro!
