Watch choosing the best HR signal -- Smart band and/or onboard OHR
-
Hei there!
Quick questions about using the Smart HR band from Suunto. So far, it’s clear to me how to use it in the context of an activity being recorded: you just make sure that the heart icon before the activity starts is actually the one that has a “band” behind the heart, indicating that the watch is using the HR band rather than the onboard OHR. It’s so dead simple, just works.
Now, some forward thinking questions:
-
While recording an activity, is the OHR data from the watch completely dismissed? I mean, the watch will use one >OR< the other? No averaging or postprocessing is done using BOTH signals at all?
-
Without an activity being recorded, just wearing the watch and the HR band, does the watch look in any shape or form the broadcasting of the HR band? The HR widget does not indicate in any noticeable way which signal source is using for 24/7 HR monitoring.
You probably see were I’m going: could the HR band be used for a better, more reliable 24/7 HR monitoring? A way of getting a similar effect would we to just launch an “other sport” activity to run continuously… which looks quite inconvenient.
Wouldn’t it be great if the watch was “smart” enough to automatically choose/use the best HR signal available at any given moment?
Thanks for your views!
